Vintage House Plans

Image
Below: my house Below: a house from this site I've been searching the Internet for the style of my 101 year old house... with no luck so far. I have learned that most houses in the early 1900's were purchased from the Sears Home Catalog. Houses were actually complete kits, which included everything; right down to the nails. I had pretty much come to the conclusion that my house wasn't from a kit. It's not like any other floor plan I've found. However, I just found the 2 nd photo above. It's from this site : and looks more like mine then any others I've found. It's unknown if that house is a Sears Home, but it is likely. If anyone recognizes the style of my home, please let my know. I think it's a one-story brick veneer bungalow ... but, I'm not positive.

A Shopping Spree!

Image
There was a time where I loved to shop at the mall, or Marshall's (the best store ever!) Not anymore. As a future home owner, I can now be found either at Lowe's or Orchard Supply; every single weekend. I can never leave without spending at least $100 either. While I used to purchase such frivolous items such as Lancome ' makeup, purses or clothes; I now buy this: One can NEVER have enough spray primer! some spray paint for the gazillion picture frames I own, but need spruced up sealer, paint and primer for the many furniture paint projects I have going on at the moment... misc paint items I can't live without (a lot are for the new house) *********************************************************** Can you believe I spent $340 on paint supplies today? Yeah, me neither. My projects better look awesome, or I better find another hobby.

Paint Colors

Image
I'm trying to decide on paint colors for the dining room / living room area. Since I have an extremely high ceiling with beams, it's going to be quite a job! I would love it if I had enough time to strip all the beams, but there is just no way I can do that (maybe some day). I'm leaning towards a dark brown for the beams and creamy beige for the walls and ceiling (although this color sample looks pink when scanned, it's totally not) I absolutely love the color schemes in this Dutch Boy pamphlet . Maybe because I love love love the Sequoia Mountains! I'm leaning more towards the colors below. I painted my coffee and end tables the green color below (4 th swatch) I also like the circular cream color.

Inspection: Official version

This is the edited version, as it is 26 pages long. This inspector is GREAT and well worth the $315 he charged me. He was at the property from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm. Granted, he did talk a LOT, but was extremely friendly and I would refer him to friends. There were a few things that I didn't realize. The words 'broken window' appears several times in the report. Marginal Summary Lots and Grounds 1. Steps/Stoops: Concrete and brick: Cracks on steps and concrete, concrete pitted and chipped 2. Porch: Covered Bricks: cracked/separated. Mortar needed between bricks. Support column wood not centered. 3. Grading: Minor slope: Low spots near foundation with signs of poor draining. 4. Fences: Wood Fence leans, loose/missing boards Exterior Surface and Components 5. Exterior Walls Surface Type: Brick: exterior wall bricks need mortar 6. Trim: Wood moisture stains on window trim. Paint peeling. 7. Fascia: Wood moisture stains/damage, Recommend further review by a licensed specialist....
