Is it Friday yet?

On Tuesday, it actually rained here; a lot. We rarely get rain, and it was much needed. After moving one load, I spent the rest of the evening being a lazy slug.

Load 23: desk items

On Wednesday, had my daughter over for pizza & cookies & cream pie. We celebrated her 26th birthday a day early, since I needed to buy my hot water heater today.

Today, it was straight to Lowe's after work to buy my 40 gallon hot water heater, lines, & gas valve. That sucker was heavy, but with my daughters help, we got it into the house! After I took her home, I got a few more loads over.

Load 24: 1/2 load ~ storage room
Load 25: 1/2 load ~ bedroom closet

The birthday girl!
She loves polka dots, so I got her a quilt, sheet set & pillows. Also, a cute pink jewelry box. :)

    You are slowly getting there. Happy Birthday Sasha!

    Our sell/move plans are on hold. Things aren't looking all that great at John's work right now, so I don't want to have the headache of this right now on top of all the unknown! If things get real bad our back up plan is to move in with his parents... but hoping it doesn't come to that!

    I cant believe you have done so many loads! Your daughter looks like she had a wonderful birthday- and I love the little one sitting next to her helping! So sweet!

    Oh man! Been there and done that with the water heater. Those things weigh a TON, especially the older ones (of which I've now removed TWO). You go, girl!

A busy day!

As you know, I got my keys at lunch time. I ran over to the house real quick and found that the smoke alarms had not been installed. According to my inspector, the seller has to install smoke alarms in each room before closing. The seller had agreed to install them. Now they are saying that it's not required by law if the house was built before 1992. So, my realtor is going to call the fire department tomorrow and ask. On my paperwork for the request for repairs, the seller had agreed to get it up to code; so I really hope they follow through on this. There is one smoke alarm in a house that is 2050 square feet. My daughter and I spent the last 3 hours cleaning windows, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc. There are about 6 windows that are painted shut, so I'll try and tackle those tomorrow. Also, I want to get the windows spray washed from the outside. I am tired, but very very happy that this day finally came. I hope my dad knows how grateful I am. If it weren't for him...

A long and relaxing winter...

Wow, it has been 6 months since I blogged. I took the winter off from taking care of my lawn.  Regretting it now.  My daughter and I still raked the gazillion leaves during Fall, but I did not put down any weed preventer before winter.  I have no more grass. Seriously,  the weeds choked the life out it.  This little weed is the evil culprit that has made my back ache this month. I have pulled 100's of them.  Yet, they keep multiplying.  I am not the only house fighting the weed invasion though... every house on my block has a yard that looks like mine; except their yards are not as large.  My daughter and I got the lawn mowed yesterday.  Then I sprayed quite a few weeds with Roundup.  There is no way I would be able to spray the entire yard...  so I have a bright idea... I am going to spread all of these wildflower seeds in my lawn.  If I have to have weeds, they might as well be pretty ones.  California is in a major drou...

Dining room update...

When I first started this adventure, I had grand visions of stripping all of the wood.  After many Sundays spent stripping the wainscoting, plate rails and window frames... that gradually changed. It has taken me years to get to where I am.  So, I changed plans...  and decided not to strip the box beam ceiling.  The main reason is that I would like to have a functioning dining room this year.  Everything is piled in the center of the room.  Table, chairs, hutch, china cabinet, etc.  It will be nice to actually eat at the dining room table. What the dining room looked like during my walk-through.  All the walls, windows, wainscoting and plate rails  are now stripped of paint.  The plan is to sand all the wood down,  and use an oil to bring it back to life.  I would love to shellac it,  but that would probably cost a fortune.  After I paint, it is going to look similar to this.  I am going to distress the beams, so...
