The week so far...

Monday, I went to Target for a door knob so my current realtor doesn't come in my rental while I'm at work. I spent the next 2 hours trying to put it on. I've never been good at door knobs. It looks so easy, but I'm door knob dumb. After that, I was too frustrated & tired to do anything. So I didn't.

Tuesday, I had to try and find a retirement gift for one of my bosses. This is a daunting task. Isn't there anything out there that doesn't just say over the hill? I thought for sure Hallmark would have something. Nope. Went to Michael's Crafts, nothing there either. Then to Marshall's. Nothing. Finally gave up.

Went and picked up daughter and baby, came back to rental. Loaded up of my DVDs and VHS tapes. I am definitely not one of those people who can load up one vehicle and move across state lines... my movies filled an entire SUV.

Then we headed over to the new house. The code lock thing is still on my doors. Have I mentioned how frustrating this is? If I knew how to take off & reinstall door knobs, I'd get it off that way.

Load 10: Movie collection

We put a majority of my movies in the built in cabinets that separate the dining and living rooms. I forgot to mention, that was one of the things that mysteriously became broken between the time I walked through and the time I actually got my keys. I knew one glass was broken, but the other was perfect the last time I took pictures in August. I think I'm going to have to remove the glass now.

After that, it was already dark. Took daughter home and came home and watched the new Melrose Place.

Oh, and most of my utilities are on or scheduled. The electric was put into my name on Monday. The Water, Trash & Sewer were transferred to my name yesterday. The gas company can't make it out until Monday.

  1. Yikes, is the broken glass in the leaded glass thing? Is that fixable?

I've changed interior doorknobs, but when the exterior locks needed changing I called a locksmith and he popped out the cylinders and just put in new ones, the rest of the thing didn't need to be touched. Those were modern Schlage locks, though...

Retirement gift - how about a really nice pen? Maybe even one that uses real ink, even if it's in a cartridge? Help bring back civility :-)

I bought some gizmo that is supposed to transfer tapes to my pc. I haven't had the guts to try it yet. Plus then I need to get a DVD burner and figure out how to use that. But it would free up 3-4 cardboard boxes of space now taken up by tapes.

By this time I would be getting quite testy about the code lock thing. That's even a burglary risk. Myself, I would get a commitment from the realtor to get her butt over there and remove it today, or talk to her office manager and mention burglary. I am sure he doesn't want to be sued if that happens. (I am really irritable this morning :-)

  2. Karen Anne is right, a pen would be nice. Ive seen people receive pocket watches too, or flowers. I guess it depends on the person really.

I had to get rid of all my VHS tapes. They just took up too much space, plus you have to worry about the VHS Player and all that. It was sad to see so many good movies go. Such is life.

Thats a shame the glass was broken. I would remove it- especially since you have a little one that visits. If you get it measured out, and go to lowes or homedepot, they can cut a new piece of plain glass or plexi for you.

The realtor took about 2 weeks to come out to our house and take down the sign and locks. And even then he left the huge post for the sign in the yard for me to pick up. If i was you I would just ask for the code so you could take them off (if its the push button kind).

Sounds like your making great progress!

  3. I need to get the rest of my movies converted over to DVD, just waiting for my FIL to feel better.

I would be on the realtors butt until they took off the lock thing!

  4. Karen Anne, let me know if that tape to PC thing works... because I have about 10 home videos that need to be transferred somehow. I had bought one of those VHS to DVD burner type machines and could not figure out how to get to work.... everything used to be so easy!

A pen sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

  5. Victoria,
Trust me, I have asked for the code to take off that thing. My realtor said the 'Listing Agent' has been left several messages. It's somewhat difficult to open & close the door with that thing on it.

The sign post is still in my front yard... the sign would be too, if I hadn't taken it down myself. Lazy people!

  6. Jodi,
That would be such a huge task, burning all of my VHS movies, lol But, I would love to burn all of my Home Videos, as there are so many of them with my brother. I hardly ever watch them, cause I cry the entire time.
