I started stripping the redwood quite awhile back, gave up and started doing other projects that don't involve inhaling paint fumes from a heat gun. So, I know from that little adventure that I just don't have it in me to strip the paint off of the coffered ceiling. It would take 30 years or so...
So, I've decided to do this. Like exactly. I love the white beams and red walls. I will need to sand down the paint drips and prime the horrid shiny yellow, but I know this is how I want my dining room to look! I went back and forth between navy blue and red several times. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the red... but we'll see by the time I get around to starting this project.

I'm also considering doing something that never even crossed my mind before finding a photo of a stenciled floor on Pinterest.
These are my hardwood floors, they've been beat up pretty badly over the last 104 years. Between my grand-kids and my cat, I don't see shiny hardwood ever happening...
So, I am seriously considering doing this... I absolutely love the look. For the first few years I was all about wanting to return the house back to it's natural, original state. But I will be living in this house until the day I die, and want it to be something that I enjoy looking at every day. I really enjoy the beachy/white look, so I'm going to keep my options open, and that means possibly painting my hardwood floors.

We hired out the paint stripping of our box beams. It was so worth it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I guess I've gotten used to paint fumes when I strip paint with a heat gun, because I don't even smell them anymore. I don't think we have much because I use the heat gun at a pretty low setting; just enough to soften the paint.
I was all into it when I first started, but then my daughter moved in with my grand-daughter. I don't want any of the fumes lingering in the air during the night for her to inhale.
ReplyDeleteI'll paint it for now, and most likely strip it a few years from now. :)
