Landscaping, Part Two

Image
Worked on the lawn another 5 1/2 hours today. Every muscle in my body hurts. I'm not sure when, but I also may have sprained my RH wrist, cause it really hurts and it's swollen. Maybe it's from shoveling and pulling up roots for hours on end? I am having so much positive feedback from the neighborhood! Yesterday, 3 different people stopped their cars to tell me basically 'thank goodness someone is doing something with that yard!' I actually got thanked a few times. 2 more people stopped today to tell me how great it's looking1 Neighborhood eyesore? lol I got the corner done... which is a major improvement. It was all dirt and weeds before today. Now the sidewalk edge can actually be seen! :) I want to go further down the sidewalk next weekend. The front walkway is all lined with flowers. I managed to get two rose bushes planted, but got too tired to plant the other two. Next week! There is a LOT more work to be done. This is behind my house... clovers are gro...

Landscaping, Part One

Oh my, 5 1/2 hours of yard work kicked my a$$ today. I did get a lot accomplished though! My yard was starting to look like a jungle because of the rain. lol The yard before... still trying to combat the gopher issue. grrr another before got the front of the house mowed and trimmed then tackled the concrete border in front.. my intention was to 'straighten' it up, but omg , they are heavy... so that's a job for later when I have money to pay someone to do it.   I'm going to plant some flowers in the dirt area, once I get the other 50 feet dug up tomorrow. It was quite a job! Not to mention I kept getting bitten by ants.   LH side of the yard RH side of the yard It goes on forever! Seriously. pretty flowers to line the walkway I'm going to plant more tomorrow I landscaped the areas on both sides of the porch steps

Pretty pots

I got really lucky today! I found clay pots on clearance at Kmart for $4.99 each! They were regularly $19.00 each. I bought 10. Then, I planted some flower seeds and a few annuals. I'm going to love it when they start growing and I can put them on my wrap-around-porch. I was going to plant a few flowers today, but it got all dark and cloudy on me. So, for now, they are in the bathtub with my clay pots. :)

Can't wait for spring...

I just ordered 18 books off of Amazon(dot)com. They all pertain to landscaping, container gardening and regular gardening. Some of the books are the exact ones that I seen in Orchard Supply yesterday for $19.99. I purchased them all from the same seller and I got them for .01 - $1.25 + $3.99 shipping and handling for each book. I seriously don't know how this seller makes any money! Well, he might from me, since the shipping & handling was almost $80. :) I've already started planting flower seeds in pots to put on my porch. I love it when wrap around porches are decorated with flower pots! I can't wait to landscape my HUGE yard. I have ideas, but know I need to do the research in order to buy the right plants for the right area. These photos are all from HGTV(dot)com. Those back yards are amazing!! I'd love to have something like this in my back yard! or this!

January Rains

Image
We had major rain today. When I came home for lunch, I had to drive 45 mph on the highway (like everyone else)... and still hydroplaned quite a few times. Scary! It was pouring down like crazy here at home... the street around my house was completely flooded within 30 minutes. My sidewalks are a good foot lower then my lawn, yet the water is even with my lawn right now. I called the city to see if they can come and pump some water, but she said I need to rely on my storm drain since the whole city is flooded. It is amazing how many idiots are flying by in that deep of water... which was all the way to the yellow line at one point. I now have 'lakeside property' lol I had to wade to my car in order to move it to the driveway the entire street in front of my house is flooded for an entire block

Finally have internet....

I take back all the evil things I've said about Comcast (well, most of it anyway)... I finally have internet and can start posting again! The last few months I've had internet withdrawels, lol

Christmas at Ye Olde Brick House

Christmas was pretty wonderful this year. My oldest daughter, Sasha, and grand-daughter stayed the night with me. We were up bright and early making pumpkin pancakes and biscuits and gravy. My youngest, Brittany, and her boyfriend joined us for breakfast. Then came the presents. Jewell tore into the first 5 presents but then lost interest in opening any more; because she wanted to play with the ones she already had. Her mommy got her Barney toys; which she absolutely loved. My girls loved all of their stuff; mainly pajamas, socks and clothes from Old Navy. My oldest daughter really spoiled me with coffee cups, family portraits, a fluffy robe and slippers, books, etc. My youngest got me a gift set from Bath and Body. Later, my oldest and I went to the movies and seen "It's Complicated"... which was so hilarious! On New Years Eve we just watched tv until 10 and went to bed. So glad the holidays are over! This weekend I managed to take down all the Christmas lights, rake le...
